The home was great. Very clean and well cared for. It was the perfect size for our family of four. The views from every room were gorgeous. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils etc...The vacationers and locals were very friendly. We really enjoyed the next door neighbors. Our kids played together each day and had a blast:). The beach was beautiful and not too crowded. Thanks for making our family vacation so enjoyable. We will definitely be back!

I am so honored to be writing this review of Deanna's home. My family and I have stayed in rental homes in North Myrtle Beach as well as Hilton Head Island and none were as pristine, clean and well-maintained as this house. We were so close to the water that even though we brought a cooler we never used it because we were so close! And now that I've been home for a few days, I appreciate where we stayed even more. You have done an outstanding job in making your home such a friendly, calm area for the family to reconnect. We had so much fun on all three levels of the decks and we saw dolphins almost every day! The view from all the windows on the left side was amazing because there were no houses on that side and it was full view of the beach (as well as from all the decks)! It was probably one of the quietest houses I've ever been in because even though we had wonderful neighbors from Ohio next to us, and they even had a toddler, we never heard them once the entire week. Beautiful sandy beaches with shark teeth and I enjoyed walking to the pier and running on the beach 3 days as well. I would consider staying at 'The Coconut' again in a heartbeat! Thank you, -Kurt

We did see a few dolphins swim by. You will not be disappointed with this rental. Remember that there are a lot of steps. Deanna was great to work with & always available from start to finish. Good food at Batson's Family restaurant, Hiway 55 diner, & Sear's Landing. We also visited the Karen Beasley Turtle Hospital & enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing your beachfront rental Deanna.... We just returned from another week long vacation at The Coconut and it was fabulous! The house is in a perfect location - right on the beach and just far enough away from the busy shops, but they are only a short drive away. The views are amazing! The Coconut is very comfortable and spacious and we felt right at home. We noticed that a lot of sand was added to the beach since last year and the water no longer comes up to the house so there is a sandy beach available all day. There are a ton of shells on the beach and I even found a shark's tooth! We are already planning another visit next year! Thank you Deanna for sharing your beautiful home with the Coles family!

    • Can't wait to return!

Reviewed by Yvonne S. on May 10, 2016 for their trip during April 2016

My husband and I just returned from our first stay at the Coconut, and I'm already making plans to get back there. Rarely have I had such a relaxing and refreshing vacation. The views are amazing, and the house is absolutely beautiful and in top-notch shape, especially for an ocean front property. I know that home owners often have a hard time staying ahead of the salt and humidity damage that can occur, but this property is clearly very well maintained! It was also extremely clean, which isn't always the case with rentals. Because we flew in for the week, we opted to rent the linens, and I was so glad we did. For a very reasonable rate, we got high quality, sheets and towels. I would do that again just for the treat of having such soft bath towels! One issue for my elderly mother, who came with us, was the stairs from the lower entry level to the main level. The house is a tri-level, so there's no way to avoid lots of stair climbing. She was fine as long as she took her time, though, and there are railings all the way up to hold on to. The stairs are also carpeted, so I didn't have to be concerned about her slipping and falling. I personally enjoyed all of the climbing, because it made me feel like I was making up for all the good food I was eating! Some places we ate were the Riverview Cafe (a family favorite), Batsen's Gallery (the only hushpuppies I've ever liked), Daddy Mac's (excellent fried flounder), and the Sneaky Freaky Bakery in Sneads Ferry. They serve excellent coffee and pastries, especially the fruit tarts. My mom and I went there almost every day for a mid-morning coffee break. The only negative of the week at times was the weather - but that will always be the case for a week-long vacation. And because the house was so beautiful and comfortable, I didn't mind the occasional rain squalls and storms at all. It was fun to see the ocean in so many different "moods." On our last day the military conducted day-long maneuvers, so it was fun to sit out on the deck and watch the ships, water craft, helicopters, and ospreys. Not nearly as fun were the artillery exercises that started during the night, but it was all part of the experience! Obviously, we can't wait to get back. Of all the vacations we've taken, this is one of the best. The Coconut might not be the cheapest place you can stay, but the cliche "you get what you pay for" definitely applies. You will not regret staying here. I can't imagine staying anywhere else!

We plan to stay there again because it was so terrific.

Our large family rented both sides of this immaculate house for the week of Thanksgiving in order to spend time with our son who is stationed at Camp LeJeune ! We had a total of 14 people and we were not crowded at all. We shared cooking responsibilities and the two kitchens meant nobody did all the work. We were in vacation mode and only went to Wilmington one day to try the trampoline park which was great fun for all ages. The people who stayed in the Coconut loved the colors and the unobstructed view of the beach and ocean was magnificent. The weather was warm enough for the kids to get wet and we were often alone on the endless beach, you could walk for miles. The house has everything and the kids appreciated the movie selection.

Would recommend to friends. Everyone had plenty of room. Great beach location very family oriented. The kitchen was well equipped therefore we chose to cook our meals there and enjoy more family time together on the beach. We saw dolphins out in the ocean. We walked to the pier one night and it was breath taking. Many walks were taken morning, noon and night by all family members. We did go to the Shipwreck Putt Putt golf one evening and the weather was great. We made many happy family memories to be shared for a life time.

Would highly recommend. The house was in great condition and very comfortable. The views are the best. We go on at least one beach vacation every year, and this was the best view I can remember. The beach was very clean, the water was clear and warm. No sharks that we saw at least. If you don't like crowds, this is the place to be. It sits next to a good number of vacant lots, so no one beside you on one side. Our neighbors staying in the other half of the house couldn't have been better. The deck layout gives you some separation, so you can avoid others if you want. We ate at Mac Daddy’s, Sugar Island Bakery, Surf City BBQ, 790, and Ricks. All were very good and I would recommend. Mac Daddy’s was probably our favorite, but it can get crowded. We also wet jet skiing at Makin' Waves. They were great and it was a good deal. They are located across from Ricks. The only down sides I can think of, and they weren't deal breakers, are: it was VERY windy almost every evening; the high tide can chase you off the beach; and the beach access is through one of the bedrooms. We would book there again.

This was our first time staying at the Coconut but it will not be our last. The views are amazing - we actually watched dolphins from the living room. The house is beautifully decorated and the furniture is very comfortable. We enjoyed the privacy of the master suite being on the top floor while the other two bedrooms were on the bottom floor. We were concerned about renting a duplex but were happy to find that the decks were private from our neighbors and we never heard any sounds from the other side. The pictures on this site show the water up to the house and it definitely reaches the steps during high tide. But when the tide goes out there is a big, beautiful beach with a ton of shells. The Coconut is in the perfect location - the beach was never crowded and there were actually a few times when we were the only people on the beach. We hope to vacation at the Coconut again in the future.

Views are spectacular from every window. I have previewed a number of properties on the island, and the Coconut will always be my "go to" property at Topsail. It feels like home.

Owner Response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay again this year at the "Lime" and thank you for the great comments. It is sincerely gratifying and humbling to host such great families as yours, who treat our place as they would their own and who fully appreciate and enjoy the location, views, beach and amenities the way we do. We understand you hope to find your own little slice of paradise some time in the future - until then we are very happy to share ours with you. See you again soon!

This was our seventh vacation on Topsail Island, our first time in "The Coconut" which is located at the north end of the island. We decided at the last minute to go to "TI" for spring break (late March) with our kids (ages 6, 8, & 10). We knew we would be inside most of the time due to the time of year, so ocean views was high on the wish list. WOW...oh WOW.....we were not disappointed!!! The views from The Coconut are simply AMAZING. You can't get any closer to the ocean....the water literally comes up to the deck steps during high tide. The Coconut is next to an empty lot, so there are a lot of windows with ocean views...just spectacular. March was actually wonderful... so peaceful, you can walk for an hour and never see another person, lots of shells, and plenty of wildlife...dolphins, birds, and we even saw deer! (who knew??). My daughters did get in the ocean a few times, but I think that was only a kid thing. The Coconut has this awesome feeling of being spacious yet still cozy. The duplex was super clean and tastefully decorated. The main living level was a wonderful place to hang out, talk, do crafts, read books, play games and watch TV. We loved having our own master suite two levels above the kids rooms. I felt like I was on a cruise ship from the master suite looking past the master deck and only seeing the ocean. The wifi worked perfectly all week. One note, we did bring our own Roku player to connect to Netflix on the big TV which proved to be useful. =) We would definitely stay at the Coconut again...who knows...probably next Spring Break??!!!?? Big thank you to Deanna for awesome communication and for sharing her lovely home with us!!!

Owner Response: We are so very pleased that you and your family had a great time at The Coconut and enjoyed your stay! It is difficult for us to describe in words the views from our three-story house. But I thank you for summing it up very nicely when you wrote "WOW...oh WOW!" We've gone to great lengths to make this a warm, friendly and inviting place for our guests and honestly for us as well. We hope you will be able to visit again, perhaps during the summer months when the weather is perfect and the beach can be more fully enjoyed by both the kids and the "kids-at-heart". :-) Best wishes!

The place was wonderful we stayed there for a whole week, and we had a great time. We had 5 people in our group and it was a perfect fit. The best thing was that we're directly on the beach and we could see the sun rise and hear the sound of waves everyday. Unfortunately we didn't get the best weather, the water was cold and it was a bit windy. It also rained for a couple of days, but hey no one can control the weather. Next I will probably be going there when it's a bit warmer.

Owner Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay! Sorry the weather didn't cooperate. The weather in March can be unpredictable, we know. We've experienced perfect sunny and warm days early in the year like this with a mix of rainy spring days. But then when we think of the alternative of being back home in cold Michigan, this somehow makes it all just fine! :-) We hope you will have a chance to come back when the weather is perfect and the beach (just a few steps from the house) becomes the central point for everyone to hang out and relax. Best wishes!
